There are some projects that need more visualization than most 2D images can provide. Kitchens and baths often have mixed finishes or details that are hard to communicate. We have the ability to create a virtual 3D image of the space often with the exact finishes being proposed. The programs we use can often be rendered in a photorealistic version. The extra expense of a 3D render will most often be offset by eliminating changes during the construction project that are costly and stall a project.
